Verena Anders

Fanny Mendelssohn of The Mendelssohn Project

Born in Berlin, Verena Anders initiated her musical studies at the Peabody Institute after her family had moved to Baltimore. While showing an extraordinary affinity for the performing arts, she began to undertake specialized training in piano, voice and dance. At age 17, she won a scholarship through the Rosa Ponselle Voice Competition to attend an Opera Training Program in San Francisco.

Miss Anders continued her musical studies at the University of Maryland, College Park.   Her mentors there included internationally acclaimed pianists Santiago Rodriguez, and her mother, Lucia Starr as her primary voice teacher. In September 2004, Verena Anders was appointed Music Director and Choir Director of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church near Washington D.C.
