December, 2010

Dear Friend of The Mendelssohn Project,

We are pleased to extend an invitation to host a *Mendelssohn Salon Concert* in your home in the coming year. This is a unique opportunity to experience a rare, unpublished composition by Felix Mendelssohn and the brilliant music of his equally gifted sister, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.

Begun in 2004, our Salon Concert series brings music and history to life with an extraordinary occasion to share a 'lost treasure' by Felix Mendelssohn with your family and friends. Our musicians, carefully selected from New York's premiere music schools, will perform chamber music in a style which recreates the Salons of Fanny Hensel in Berlin in the 1830s and 1840s. The entire presentation will last approximately one and a quarter hours, with Artistic Director, Stephen Somary, supplying commentary and historical background on each of the works, as well as telling the astonishing, mostly unknown, story of the lives of the Mendelssohns. Afterwards, the staff of The Mendelssohn Project will be available to talk and socialize with your guests.

For a limited time, your tax-deductible donation will reach even further. For every Salon booked between now and December 31, 2010, The Mendelssohn Project will provide a comparable concert program to a public or private school of your choosing in the greater New York City area. Your generosity will introduce Felix Mendelssohn, who was the 'rock star' of his day, and Fanny Hensel, who was one of the great 'modern women' of her time, to children who have never experienced classical music in such a dramatic and fulfilling way.

Also remember, a portion of every contribution made will be going to build our scholarship fund. Booking an event now provides the opportunity to extend the scope of your gift.

A special birthday? Valentine's Day? Anniversary? Or just to celebrate your love of the arts! There are many occasions to schedule your Salon Concert with us now. Your fully tax-deductible donation of $5,000.00 will provide the private, exclusive entertainment for your guests, host a similar program in a school of your choosing, contribute to our scholarship fund, and provide financial support for the musicians and The Mendelssohn Project. Please contact us to discuss the particulars of your special event.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season!

Stephen Somary (Artistic Director)
